In the late 80s the hydros® technology was developed by Group of Karl Weiss in close cooperation with the Berlin Water Works. As Berlin is one of the "greenest" cities, on average there is a tree every 11 meters. Problems sometimes arise because these trees have often been planted above drinking water pipelines after their installation.
Under these circumstances the replacement of leaking drinking water pipelines can prove to be very difficult. This problem led to the development of the hydros® technology. In this procedure, the old pipe material is removed from the soil with the help of hydraulic pulling units and the new pipe material is inserted into the existing line at the same time.
This development has been awarded the Innovation Prize of the state of Berlin. Today, the hydros® technology is patented worldwide and is used by licensees all over Europe. In Berlin more than 40 km of pressure pipelines have been successfully replaced since the technology has been introduced.
